Harversting at Brent Eleigh Walled Garden


Harvesting today ready for our delivery trip to Novikov tomorrow. Sometimes things are not as they appear. Having successfully transplanted three rows of Jerusalem artichokes for the coming season, I decided to harvest a small patch from another area of the garden. These ones initially appeared fine, but on closer inspection wireworm was prevalent. This means that any root crop such as our lovely yellow and purple carrots, beetroot and potato could become affected. Luckily we haven’t planted any other root crops in this area. We will have to introduce beneficial nematodes to the soil, so that the wireworms are parasitized and hope for the best.
